Book Finding...

Back on the Queen's birthday long weekend, I had a wander through the Lifeline Bookfest. So many fabulous books to be found, but wary of my already heavy suitcase I was very restrained in my book buying...

Blue Danube is one of my favourite pieces of music and to find this in good condition made me very happy. I have plans of framing the cover and will use the sheet music on a crafty project somewhere along the way.

I found two Enid Blyton books, Amelia Jane Again, which is an original 1946 edition and The Wishing Chair Again, which is a 1984 edition. These are going to sit on my book self and be lovingly read every now and then.

I picked up some Golden Books to add to the 'craft' collection...I'm sure there are plenty of people who will curse me for cutting up such beautiful books :)

At that point I decided that I had picked up enough books and started to head out, until this caught me eye...

How could I possibly leave a gem like this behind?? Especially when its filled with chapters like... Is Love Necessary?, Preparation for the Hunt, How to Trap Him, Love Potions and Girls! Fasten your Chastity Belts.
Pure Gold...and who knows it might just help me snare that fella :) lol!!

Have you had any good book finds recently??

Feeling Proud

Today I accomplished something that I never actually thought I would do.
I climbed from Waterfall Gully to Mt Lofty and back down again.
It is a 7.8km walk, through some very steep terrain. More than once I had to stop and was ready to give up and go back down, but the euphoria of getting to the top was absolutely worth it, and I actually can't wait to do it again.
via South Australian Trails
It took Bec and I just over 2 hours, with a 5-10 minute rest stop at the top. The view at Mount Lofty is gorgeous, seeing across most of Adelaide.
Its fantastic to have another goal crossed off the list, and a new one formed- by June 2012 I want to be able to run this walk!
Hope you've had a wonderful Sunday!

The week that was

Ahhh, what a week.

So very glad that one is done and dusted, its been a rollercoaster of emotions- last weekend was fabulous catching up with friends, seeing Kylie Minogue with my little sister, going to the movies to see Bridesmaids, catching up with my friends and then it all came crashing down.

I'm not sure if it was the windy, crazy weather or just the fact that it was Monday but man I was grumpy. Grumpy, sad and pretty much a total pain in the arse. I couldn't at all pin point what was making me grumpy except for the fact that I was angry at the world and everything around me. Until tuesday night.

Tuesday night was a moment of revelation for me, excercise truely makes me happy. I went to pump at the gym, even though it was the last thing I felt like doing, I upped my weights a bit and worked hard. By the time the class ended I was feeling, strong, fit and happy! Wednesday night I hauled my arse off the couch to boxing at the gym, which at 7:30pm is waaaay past my bedtime, but is fast becoming a highlight of my exercise week, after the class I felt like I could conquer the world. I am finding it amazing how all of a sudden I am feeling so strong and so confident in what I am doing. It is a good feeling and I feel kind of proud of it. I still have a very, very long way to travel in my weight loss/healthy living journey but I've decided that I have laid a good platform and only good things can happen from now!

Anyway, after hauling myself out of my funk, I had an AMAZING, and I mean amazing personal training session on thursday. I honestly didn't realised I could work that hard! lots of calories in 45 minutes :) and today I visited some new thrift shops, the first wasn't very fruitful, but did  have a rather large box of patterns...

and the second was glimpsed on the side of the road, a crazy change of lanes and sharp right turn proved to pay off. It was a treasure trove of goodies and run by absolutely lovely ladies (which always makes the difference in my book!)
I will share all my latest op-shop finds tomorrow, they certainly need a post all of their own :)

Hows your week been??

Scrapbook Expo 2011

I spent last weekend in Brisbane for the Scrapbook and Papercraft Exhibition at the convention centre and had the most fantastic time.

Things I learnt over the weekend included:
  • When Tatum says, we can sit in different rows on the plane because it will be early and we wont talk, DON'T believe her...I spent most of the flight twisted around catching up on the 6 weeks she was away :)
  • If you bat your eyelids and smile sweetly you can get a free bus ride
  • Ngaire Bartlam has the coolest house ever
  • and Ngaire and Jilly  have fabulous knowlege to share!
  • Dancing on tables is frowned upon at the Plough Inn
  • Cocktails are difficult for some people to make, but a good cosmopolitan rocks!
  • Beware when Googling Japenese scrapbookers in public, it can lead to 'special' photos
  • Machine needle felting is soooo cool!
  • and even cooler when you win a machine!
  • Annah Stretton makes the most beautiful dresses...ones that make me cry
  • Packing running shoes is a guareentee that I will not excercise
  • Walking 40 minutes to find lunch always pays off
  • Nothing beats the perfect Eggs Benedict for breakfast
  • Max Brenner's is sooo not worth the line up in the rain (I did not line up in the rain)
  • I love playing with paint and getting my hands really dirty
  • I loooove the Perth Girls ( <3 Kat, G and Sonia)
  • Playing roulette is incredibly boring
  • Nat is lots of fun :)
  • I'm a sucker for a beautiful handbag
  • Surrealism is one of the most amazing art movements
  • Brisbane is so very pretty
  • Getting back into excercise after a few days off is hard work!!
What have you learnt lately??

Hold on to your hats...

I've actually got some scrapping to share!!
I thought that seeing as I'm heading off to the Scrapbooking Expo next weekend I'd better show that I actually do scrap, albeit on rare occasions at the moment.
These layouts are actually from the Escape2Create retreat at the beginning of April, the girls have some fantastic challenge inspiration up this month, I really need to make some time to scrap some :)
Sadie you are a grot! and hate to be washed, most of the time you smell bad, but still you're pretty cute.
Dirty Dog was the last layout I made at the retreat, I was shuffling all the scraps left in front of me and then decided to just stick them down! I think there is maybe 2 pieces of double sided tape, the rest is held down with the masking tape and stitching. The D card and the retro star in the top left corner were in the awesome goodie bag- I love the quirky, interesting things the girls find.
And just to show that we aren't cruel and leave Sadie looking totally feral, heres a snap I took of her yesterday...
I love this layout, the papers are the Pink Paislee/House of 3 collaboration and they just make me smile. I journalled (hidden in the Maya Road envelope) late into the night after a few cocktails and its very deep, meaningful and completely over the top- but so very much me :) Another beautiful photo by the lovely dQ.

A killer smile thats for sure!
Ahhh...how could you not love this boy, I am seriously the luckiest Aunty :) I had a bit of an affair with 8 1/2 x 11 inch layouts at the retreat- nearly half of my layouts ended up this size...and most of them had dQ's photos on them!! I'm slightly disappointed with my journalling on this one, I think it would've looked more effective with printed journalling, but I'm too impatient for that kinda stuff.
How do you prefer to journal- handwritten or computer generated??
I still have a couple more layouts to share, but I might leave that till next week :)
Have a brilliant weekend,
xx Lauren
